Snake Race

The Snake Race is an exciting and physically demanding group activity that tests your teamwork, coordination, competitive spirit, and physical fitness in a high-pressure environment.

What is Snake Race?

Snake Race is a task where different groups participate in a competitive race. In this task, the candidates are asked to compete in a race in a tent that is rolled up and appears like a snake. The teams must move together in perfect coordination while maintaining speed to outpace other teams.

Skills Evaluated

This task evaluates your:

  • Physical fitness and endurance
  • Team spirit and cooperation
  • Competitive spirit
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Leadership in competitive situations
  • Coordination and synchronization
  • Adaptability to physical constraints
  • Resilience and determination

How Snake Race Works

  1. Team Formation: Candidates are divided into teams, typically of 8-10 members.
  2. Equipment: Each team is provided with a canvas tube or tent (the "snake").
  3. Position: Team members position themselves inside the canvas tube with their heads outside, holding onto the tube with their hands.
  4. Course: A race course is set up with 6 obstacles that teams must navigate through while carrying the snake.
  5. Race: On the signal, all teams must race through the obstacles while maintaining their formation inside the snake.
  6. Coordination: Success depends on all members moving in perfect synchronization through each obstacle.
  7. Winning: The first team to cross the finish line with all members still properly positioned in the snake wins.

Snake Race Rules

  • Once picked up, snake cannot touch the ground until finish
  • Snake cannot be shortened or folded
  • Snake must take the same course as the candidates
  • While running, snake must be held by all group members and at least by 3 while negotiating obstacles
  • On completing one obstacle, complete team must move to next and not individually
  • Color rule applicable (don't touch red portions of obstacles)
  • For rule violation, GTO can impose penalties

The 6 Snake Race Obstacles

Single Ramp obstacle

1. Single Ramp

A ramp that the group must climb up and jump down while carrying the snake.

Figure of Eight obstacle

2. Figure of Eight

A pattern where the group must navigate in a figure-8 formation while carrying the snake.

Spider Web obstacle

3. Spider Web

A web-like structure made of ropes that the group must navigate through.

Double Wall obstacle

4. Double Wall

Two walls connected by a wooden log that the group must cross over.

Single Wall obstacle

5. Single Wall

A higher wall that requires teamwork to climb over while carrying the snake.

Giant Slide obstacle

6. Giant Slide

A large slide that the group must climb up using narrow steps and then slide down.
